Overview

The Junior Innovators Camp offers a single-room camp program for younger children (approximately ages 3–7). This mixed-age camp, introduces our littlest campers to the world of STEAM through playful, hands-on activities. It’s a perfect choice for parents in the city’s North end looking for an engaging, safe introduction to tech for their young kids.

Program Highlights

Little ones get an exciting intro to robots without any complex coding. They'll build and play with simple robots like a Paper Robot (crafting a robot out of paper). They also meet tiny smart robots - Ozobots, learning to draw paths and see the robot follow shapes and directions, and try out Sphero robots, guiding these rolling bots through colorful drawing games. These activities develop understanding of basic robotics while being super fun.

Using Scratch Jr., a tablet-based visual coding app made for young children, campers will create their own interactive stories and games. They start by adding characters and backgrounds, then learn to make characters move with simple drag-and-drop coding. They will create a “Hide and Seek” game or an animated fish tank scene using Scratch Jr. This nurtures problem-solving and logical thinking at an early age.

The program includes art time to let creativity soar. Kids will do finger painting and sponge stamping (making fun textures and patterns), craft adorable paper plate animals, and create nature-inspired collages. These hands-on art projects refine motor skills and let kids express themselves freely.

Junior Innovators camp introduces gentle tech gadgets suitable for kids. Campers will see demonstrations of an AirBlock drone (a safe, modular drone) transforming into a hovercraft – imagine their excitement watching a mini drone lift off! They will assist instructors in simple tasks like pressing buttons to make it fly or hover over the floor. It’s a thrilling peek into aerospace in a very controlled way.

To round out their day, our young inventors play “Chasing Bob” (a lively mental math game disguised as play) to sharpen their math skills. Story time is also a big part of the experience – through storytelling sessions, kids boost their imagination and confidence by sharing stories or listening to fun tales. We even get hands messy with a bit of pottery play, letting them mold clay into simple shapes, sparking tactile creativity.
